Released Version 0.8 R2

NaviComputer V0.8 R2 comes with some bug fixes and improves some stability issues.

Now it is possible to continue a recorded track after the application has been closed unexpectedly (e.g. battery went empty, device crashed,…). After restarting the program and starting a track, the program will ask if the previous track shall be continued. So your data won't get lost.

First off I want to thank you for this very nice piece of software. My question is how do you get to the compass screen? I have an omnia 2 but can not find how to open the compass screen.

  2. Developer says:

    Hi,
compass will be supported in the omnia II special edition which unfortunately is not out yet. It will be released within the next few days.

  3. Wowstar says:

On my Xperia, this program doesn't work very well. The gps works, downloading maps also works perfectly, but it doesn't calculate my speed nor distance and the recorded gpx files are not possible to read. It says "gpx file not supported" when I click a log.

  4. Developer says:

Hi Wowstar, could you give more details please? Do you have "Fixed" gps state? Is your position displayed correctly on the map? What speed does it display? Is it greyed out?

  5. Tippy says:

I downloaded .8R2 but after installation, the About screen still shows .8
What build am I looking for? It lists build 3651.21612

Why does About show only .8?

  6. Developer says:

that is alright. R2 is build 3651.21612

  7. john says:

how long does this free download take. i have good fast connection and still waiting for 15min ?

  8. Wowstar says:

Yes, I have "Fixed" gps state and my position is displayed correctly on the map. Speed and distance are not greyed out and they both show 0km/0kmh.

  9. Ondra S. says:

    Hi,
I have used previous version of NaviComputer without no problem. After few days of usage on my HTC Touch Pro 2 the software crashed.
It refuses to run – gives me an error – invalid operation (InvalidOperationException.)
    The details of the error:

    System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.DeSerialize(XmlReader xmlReader, StringencodingStyle)
    v
    System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.DeSerialize(Stream stream)
    v
    NaviComputer.Settings.LoadSettings(String filename)
    v NaviComputer.MainForm..ctor()
    v NaviComputer.Program.Main()

I downloaded the newest version, reinstalled, also reinstalled Microsoft Network and still the same message. I have my maps located on storage card.

I hope you can help me I really like the software and I would consider donating some bucks for development.

    Thanks.

  10. Developer says:

    Wowstart:
That's strange… Did you really move with the phone while recording the track? Because new trackpoints will only be added if the distance to the previous point is 3 meters or more.

  11. Developer says:

    Ondra S:
There is probably something wrong with your settings file. Simply delete the file 'settings.config' inside the NaviComputer program directory.

  12. Ondra S. says:

    Developer:

    Thank you, it worked.

  13. QA says:

    To ALL,

Please note that the "Center GPS postion, 2XZoom, Mapd, Online Mode and Download Map" are found in the Contect Menu which you access by tapping and holding on your screen for a second until that menu appears.
I don't think this info appears anywhere and has come up in the XDA forum.

  14. F.A.S.T. Unit 52 says:

I posted a Question for anyone able to help me with download issue on the XDA forum thread. Thanks in advance to those who might be able to help with this personal need situation.

My hats off to the Developer of this program. It is an Awesome program!!! Keep up the great work you are doing.

  15. Kimbar says:

I've exactly the same problem as Wowstar on Xperia. The instant speed is calculated, but altitude isn't. My position and direction is shown on the map, but the track isn't and it isn't recording. The gpx file has no recorded points. That's how the insides looks like:

    100104
    10-01-04 12:05:00

  16. Kimbar says:

    Ah… WordPress's eaten the tags.

This is how the <gpx> insides looks like:

    <trk>
    <name>100104</name>
    <desc>10-01-04 12:05:00</desc>
    <trkseg />
    </trk>

  17. Developer says:

Thanks for the report. The Xperia GPS seems to handle the altitude data differently. Trackpoints are only added if the altitude data is valid… Unfortunately I do not have a Xperia for more testing. You could try to use something like GPSProxy. Let me see if I can do anything for Xperia compatibility in future versions…

  18. Maverick2127 says:

Is it possible to get the installer for the Omnia II version. I tried to get it from the Samsung App store but was unable. It appears I can not get access to the download.

EDIT BY DEVELOPER: I have moved this discussion to the Omnia Edition Post

  19. Vladimir,S says:

    Hi,
I have the same problem as Kimbar. On my phone HTC Touch Pro. When running, it shows the spped and number of satellites only, no altitude, 0km distance, 0km/h. average speed. Then, i saved the record, but the GPX file is "empty", the same format as Kimbar wrote. Pls help, I like the program too.

  20. Developer says:

For those who are facing problems with the altitude data and thereby cannot record tracks: Please try this and give me feedback if it works:
    NaviComputer Altitude Testversion

  21. Vladimir,S says:

Hi, it's much better! It works, thanks. What was the problem ?

  22. Kimbar says:

It's also working under Xperia now, although the altitude accuracy isn't great (horizontal is very good). It varies in few meters range when walking a flat area but I guess it's normal on phone-based GPS with 7 to 8 satellites fixed. I'll try to hunt 10 satellites some day and check the accuracy.

    Thanks a lot! ka-ching! :-)

  25. Mech says:

    Hello,

I installed 0.8 R2 along with NET 3.5 successfully on my Atom Life running Windows Mobile 6. The Navicom icon appears in programs but when touched the Windows icon appears and revolves for a few seconds and then nothing happens. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  26. Sam says:

    Hello,
I have a Palm treo pro. I believe it's the size of the screen that is preventing me from getting access to the lower buttons (e.g. Track View, GPX, etc buttons)…. Is there a fix? I see "View" button on the lower left corner, but it is greyed out!

  27. Developer says:

    Hi Sam,

yes, you are right, it's the square screen size. Unfortunately there is no fix for square screens yet. Square screen support is on my todo list, but not on top of it. I think Palm treo is pretty much the only WM touch screen device with square screen.

  28. Inigo says:

It is possible to translate to spanish the interface of navicomputer, navimapper or documentation?

    THX

  29. Developer says:

    Inigo,

yes it is possible. But I cannot do it (I cannot speak spanish).
If anybody wants to contribute a translation, just send me an email.

  30. Inigo says:

    Hello,
I translated the NaviComputer help file to Spanish.
    How can I send you?

If you want I can also translate the FAQs and the interface

    NOTE:
Have you thought about the possibility of integrating this project in launchpad?

  31. Developer says:

Thanks Inigo. Please send it to Development@navicomputer.com
Please wait before translating anything else because version 0.9 will be released soon and there will be several changes. Let's discuss anything else via email.

  32. John says:

Hi. First I think that navicomputer does everything you would expect form a GPS tracking application. However, I do experience a little (well, more than) problem.
When I start a new track, with the HTC HD2 in my hand, it works fine. But I don't want to wander arond with the phone in my hand all the time. So when started, I lock the screen and put the phone in my pocket.
It seems, or it looks so, that in my pocket the GPS signal is weak, or interupted and at that point Navicomputers stops tracking and gets lost.
The same happens when I enter a building during the track.
So, I must gratulate you on you're good work so far, but I would be even more happy and willingly to donate, if the tracking keeps on, even when the GPS signal is lost during some time.

    regards,

    John

  33. Developer says:

    Hi John,

NaviComputer does not stop tracking when it looses GPS signal. It just does not add trackpoints while not having proper GPS data. As soon as GPS reception is good again it will continue tracking/adding trackpoints.

However, another HD2 user has reported that the gps receiver is switched off in standby mode. Maybe this is also your case?

NaviComputer forces Windows mobile to keep GPS powered on while recording a track even in standby. This is working on all devices I have tested so far. Maybe HD2 does behave differently in this subject. Unfortunately I do not own a HD2 so I cannot examine it.

  34. John says:

I've tested it again this morning. It indeed seems that the GPS receiver is switched off. The track is not recorded, only the time. When I took the HD2 out of my pocket and turned the screen on, the track was only showed from the point I took it out of my pocket, as well as average speed etc. Only the elapsed time had continued. Although even in this case there should have been a very little trackrecord from the start to the point I put the HD2 in my pocket, that record was lost.
I hope you will get a change soon to test the HD2,

    regards,

    John

  35. Greg says:

my screen is also squarish. i was able to get it to load and run on windows mobile 5. i can not see the bottom buttons though. if i install version 0.5 i can get to them but not with 0.6 or 0.8

  36. Jerry says:

No the Palm treo is not the only unit that is a square screen. Mind unit is a hp hw 6945, others are in the HP ipaq family all of the hw6500 and hw6900. Love your program when you had the support the square screens hope you have them up and running again. SOON

  37. Jerry says:

One other item you should keep old downloads on website in order to go back to them it there is a problem with a new download. Glad, I did not download the newer version before I read about not supporting the square screen.

  38. Tippy says:

    JERRY,
Go here for an your answer to your comment about older versions:
    http://navicomputer.com/blog/?p=123

Also, the developer may have support for square screens in the next version.

    Regards,
    tippy
