Downloading Maps on a Linux PC

The PC application NaviMapper for map downloading needs a Windows Operating System in order to run. It won't run on Linux systems.

However, NaviComputer  user Iñigo has  found a solution to download maps for use in NaviComputer on a Linux PC.

He has has set up a package including all needed files as well as a detailed instruction .

You can download the package here.

Since I do not own a PC with Linux myself, please understand that I can not provide any support regarding this topic.

All credits belong to Iñigo. Thanks again!

hi there, i just love the pictures for your software, the greatest graphics ever. i found it first on xda developers and tracked it to the web site, just to see my phone on the home page. I loved the omnia II and put all efforts to get one – just to find out how ruf it is without good support. My phone is not supported by New PC Studio, not by Software updater and not by Kies. I dont know if there is any other software by Samsung that i have not tried but chances are – i am not supported. I know this has nothing to do with you, sorry for venting here. My point is: How can i get your application, i would love to get the spec edition. Can you mail it to me? It would be great if i get atleast some support

P.S. Congrats on your award at Samsung Developers, i even joined there :)

    Hi,
I have installed Navicomputer. Great app!
I would like to run it under my Ubuntu without installing Windows.
Do you plan to make it runnable on Ubuntu?
    Wine? Mono?
I'm C# developer with strong knowledge of WPF and some decent knowledge of Winforms.
Is this software opensource? If so, I would like to help in porting :)
    Cheers

    Please let me clarify.
Windows is great but not everyone wants to pay for license.
So virtual machines with Windows in it is not an option for me too.
As I see you have 2 modules: NaviComputer and NaviMapper.
I'm interested in launching NaviMapper on top of Ubuntu in order to have user friendly and comfortable way of downloading maps.
For NaviComputer.com, it means new users. It is always great, isn't it?

Ubuntu already has mono preinstalled. System.Windows.Forms lib should be installed from repository "in two clicks".
It fails to launch app because of System.Drawing 3.5 which seems to be not finished by mono yet.

I believe that interaction with map web services like Open Street Map is done in pure .net and is launchable on top of mono or may be done so easily.
I believe that half of UI (especially it's logic) and some portion of WindowsForms can be separated from blocks that use System.Drawing (map drawing module I guess). The latter block or module can be rewritten to use System.Drawing 2.0 instead of 3.5 (because mono implemented System.Drawing 2.0 already).
Alternatively all UI (except UI logic) may be rewritten to use Gtk# or Qt-like stuff or whatever else UI framework.
Assuming that UI of Navimapper is simple, I think doing proposed stuff is reasonable and "Presto" – Ubuntu/Debian (and maybe other) who posseses WinMo devices are your users too.

Thanks, I know it is a bit too long for comment :)

You can always download a free copy of Windows at microsoft.com

There are versions available for download which run 180 days :-) So you really don't have to pay for Windows if you just need it to download maps with NaviMapper, besides that there are Windows licences available which cost half as much as a mid-range graphics card and you use them for how long? …3, 4, 5 years?
